Golfing Around
Golfing Around was built using SpriteKit in a collaboration with one programmer and one artist. I was the game designer, level designer and publisher. The project took around 12 months part time.
I have always enjoyed the concept of golf games. Hitting a small ball into a small hole that is on the other end of a grassy field. However I was always put off by the complications of golf sims that require you to have some sort of understanding of the various clubs and rules golf has. Wii Sports Golf managed to find the perfect balance in my opinion. It simplified the clubs down to the essentials but still kept enough detail to keep the essence of a golf sim.
For Golfing Around I wanted to capture the same feeling that Wii Sports Golf did. No complicated club choices but it still feels closer to a golf sim than an arcade golf experience. I'm happy with the finished game, it is one of my best reviewed games to date and the course editor proved to be very popular. However I think the gameplay was still a bit to sim like for the casual players. I could have made some aspects more forgiving. Hitting a ball into a group of trees can turn into a very frustrating experience.
