Dunkers
Dunkers was built in Stencyl in collaboration with one artist. I was the programmer, designer and publisher of this project. It took around 4 months part time to complete.
Slam Dunks have always been my favourite part of Basketball games. So I wondered if I could build a simplified basketball game distilled down to just dunking. Turned out that it was pretty fun.
In dunkers there are 2 main mechanics, stealing the ball from your opponent and dunking the ball in the net. I decided to make the game with wacky physics to add a layer of comedy and unpredictability to the gameplay. The controls are very simple but ended up being a little more frustrating than I intended. I made jumping backwards weaker than jumping forwards so you could make small adjustments when lining yourself up to go for a dunk. However this also results in you being slower than your opponent when attempting to back track to defend your net.
Dunkers was my first big hit generating over 1 million downloads in the first week on the App Store. It was my first game to get picked up by bigger media outlets such as Tech Crunch. To date it has over 4 million downloads on iOS and 1 million on Google Play.
